Emerald

Emerald is a variety of the mineral beryl, distinguished by an intense green colour due probably to traces of chromium and vanadium.  Its value depends on the colour and transparency; the finest ones show a pure green hue together with a high transparency. Delicacy is typical to emerald distinguishing it from other gems and requiring special skills of analysis and cut. Important emerald mines are located in Colombia, renowned all over the world for its wonderful emeralds both for their colour and their transparency; the term “Colombian Emerald” comes actually from here.
